Phenolic tips outlawed
In case you were not a ware of the new rule effective June 1, 2009.
League Policies
Phenolic Tip Rule
Effective June 1, 2009, the Official Rules of the BCA Pool League in “Equipment Specifications” under “Cues,” item d. states:
“The cue tip must be composed of leather, fibrous, or pliable material.
Phenolic cue tips are not permitted.”
That means any cue you use wheather it is a jump or a break cue it cannot have a phenolic tip. I do not know how it will effect the leagues in which we play, maybe Ken can shine some light on how this will affect our Sunday league since it is a BCA sanctioned league. I do not know how it will effect VEBA since it is not a BCA sanctioned league but they do use the BCA rules.
Go to playbca.com and read the ruling and you will see why they changed this rule.
Do you own a cue with a Phenolic Tip, what do you think.

Re: Phenolic tips outlawed
I had heard this might be coming but I don't understand the reasoning???? I also didn't know it was already put into place. This will really piss off some of the equipment makers and most certainly some of the players in our leagues if they can't use the equipment they have purchased!! I for one recently bought a jump cue with a phenolic tip. I know many that have phenolic tips on their break cues!!
Wow!

Re: Phenolic tips outlawed
The rule says jump cues are still allowed to use these tips. It is only the break cues that are affected.

Re: Phenolic tips outlawed
Great news for me!!! I use a very hard Leather tip on my break cue. Only my Jump cue has the Phenolic.
Here's the link for those that want to read the new policy:

Re: Phenolic tips outlawed
I am still going to email Bill Stock to verify the jump cue tip.

Re: Phenolic tips outlawed
Bill Stock said jump cues are not affected by this change. All break cues must have a leather tip. So yaall can dig out your jump cues again.

Re: Phenolic tips outlawed
The rule says "This rule will be in effect at the BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships and regional tournaments that the BCAPL promotes. Promoters, directors and operators of events such as league play or local tournaments may alter the rules as they see fit. " I guess that means we will wait to hear from Ken and Del as to whether Sunday league can run with the banned tips or not.

Re: Phenolic tips outlawed
we can discuss this at our registration meeting on Aug 20/09. My feeling is the tips are outlawed at all BCA tournaments so if you are going to play league and tounraments you would have to have 2 break cues or change the tip when you go to a tournament and again when you get home. Just my thoughts.
